Charlie’s Grind & Grill

Burger lovers or even those who are not will surely love Charlie's. Charlie's is a small, unassuming burger joint next to a car wash in Kapitolyo.

We ordered for the most famous and most raved about burger...
Black Angus burger .P165.
Quality angus meat with an affordable price! Tender and juicy...wickedly good.

We also ordered  for  hot Buffalo wings(P170 for 6 pieces) which I totally  ♥♥♥, too bad,  I accidentally deleted the picture  in my mobile phone(sorry!). And, they have shroom burger,  I  haven't really tasted it  yet,  but reading it in the menu reminds me  of  NY's Shake shack shroom burger, I just hope it is close to that...

... see you at Charlie's!!!

Shake Shack

We were walking our way to Chelsea market when we noticed a super long queue in Madison Square Park. The line was for shake shack - Yes we were pretty much intrigued by the hype has to offer but NO, we didn't bother to queue up.

We were about to go to other food place one night around 11PM-ish and noticed that there were only about 10 people on queue, so there, we tried...

We ordered for shack stack($8.75) and cheese Fries($3.25). The shack stack is a cheese burger topped with breaded mushroom (‘shroom or vegetable burger).
The burger patty itself was tasty and juicy but in my opinion it’s just ordinary but the ’shroom was simply awesome; Portobello mushroom fried with cheese, was crispy on the outside and oozing with flavors of mushroom and melted cheese on the inside.

Not really sure about the shake, but I think the 'shroom burger made this place so popular.

Artichoke Pizza

New York City gave me the best pizza memory through Artichoke pizza.

We had artichoke and spinach pizza and sicilian pizza...

Both, pizzas were bomb with flavors. The greatest  pizza I've tasted so far...

Too bad it's too far from home...

Gulliver's of San Francisco, Makati Ave.

I always love prime ribs.  Gulliver's is one of the most raved about steak restaurant in metro -finally got to seat...

Gulliver's of San Francisco is also here in Metro Manila, it is theme restaurant that is well known for its prime ribs.  Server are dressed in a wench costumes, are attentive and courteous; The ambiance is quaint, it offers an  old English tavern setting- dark wood, wooden furniture and super dimmed lights.  Having said that please forgive my photos since the place is really dark like there's  brown out ;)

Freebies: Hot and doughy bread with butter on the side.

French onion soup is one of my comfort food- hmmm…. I think that there's something missing in their version, was it thyme? Or some sort of herbs. The soup was just ok nothing to rave about.

The Prime rib (Gulliver’s cut).P890- comes with Yorkshire pudding,  spinach souffle, baked potato and the yummy-licious cream corn. The steak comes medium rare, just the way I like it; The meat sauce was added to the flavourful experience was poured upon served.  Well, it was 'not melt in your mouth' slabs but it was tender and juicy and quite satisfying.

Verdict: Not really the best prime ribs I've tasted but will surely come back here :)

Tam O'Shanter Inn

I'm a big fan of steak so is my boo... We're suppose to go to Lawry's but reservation was full so we opted for Tam O' Shanter Inn. Tam O'Shanter and Lawry's have the same owner and have almost the same set in their menu(well that's according to them) but different ambiance; Lawry's is more expensive...

The place has an old pub atmosphere, dim, warm and cozy. It has a spacious reception area with fire place...

The receptionist accompanied us to our spot, we were seated on a thick wooden booth at the corner fronting their kitchen nearing the bar, to which according to our server was the favorite spot of Walt Disney; and the interior in front of us was where Walt's (yesss, close!) copied the interiors of " Snow white and the 7 dwarfs" house.
The one who served us was accommodating and friendly, like every server there, she wore Scottish attire which added Scottish castle effect to the place. Service was great!

The bread that came along with butter was good and chewy, it was free which made it better :D

We ordered for Prime ribs in Tam O'Shanter's cut- For $35.00 (P1700 est.) , served with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, horseradish and your choice of salad or cup of soup, creamed spinach or creamed corn. For the price and combo- definitely worth it.
Medium rare as we like it, the cut was thick, size was huge, the meat was tender and juicy... Every bite was wonderful, the tasty drip of the sauce was just perfect.

There's nothing to rave about their mashed potato but it was normal; the cream of corn was exceptional.

Being a soup lover I am, of course I chose soup over salad... French onion soup! The cheese was not so well done as I like but the broth was perfect, wine was not overpowering; overall, it was Heavy, hot and flavorsome.... Separate order cost $6.00 (P300 est.) a bowl.

I've actually had no room for dessert but tried a few scoop of their chocolate souffle; The little round chocolate was bursting with rich melted choco inside which was not too sweet, was not gooie and was served fresh from the oven. P lurve it.... Just in case you want to order this, you have to order at the same time you order your meal, this to allow the fresh baking process. * Sorry, forgot how much*

No wonder it is a legend, imagine a resto running for more than 8 decade... WOW! Hmmm is there an 8 decade old resto here in Manila? Just a thought...

Kenny's roast & grill

Kenny's roast and grill is the newest resto in Powerplant mall; the 1st question I asked before dining was if it’s the same as Kenny Rogers’s roaster. Alas! It is but the concept is different.

The ambiance is classy, sophisticated and is very inviting that's why we were magnetized into eating there... Oh, also the thought of "fast food" was on our mind.

Anywoo, unlike other Kenny Rogers chain, you don't have to line up; a menu will be presented as soon as you sit. And the famous corn muffin is now being served as a freebies and is now flat and being called corn bread, it looks like this now:

I ordered for classic chicken platter (if I remember it correctly) est. @ P250, it consists of 1/4 chicken, herbed mashed potato and veggies. Oooopss, I apologize for not taking picture of our main course, we waited for more than 25 minutes for our food to arrive and we only got less than 20 minutes to eat our meal since we have to catch twilight. Well, basically the classic wood-fire roasted Kenny chicken taste exactly the same, the mashed potato taste much better because of the herbed mixture now and the veggies consist of two piece small asparagus, a sliced of tomato and slices of cucumber.

My verdict, the price is a little expensive, the waiting time is long, and the service is just ok. Shall I come back??? I guess not here, I'll go to Kenny Rogers’s roaster instead... In my opinion their old concept is much better.

Hooters

I've been to hooters 2 times already, these pictures was taken 3rd week after they opened.... I've made several attempt to write a post about hooters but I can't find the right words... Anyway hooters is well known for their chic and chix wings... Manila's version of hooter chicken wings is a little greasy and the chic.... Uhmmmm they're sexy, yes! They dance and play :D
...but might come back for the chix wings instead :D Oh, beer is not that pricey
Here are some pix, and in case you want to see their menu, just click here.

Marciano

One rainy Saturday we (Tri and Jov) decided to have lunch in one of the newest resto in Greenbelt 3 named Marciano, according to Tri it is owned by actor Marvin Agustin; Marciano is a very stylish restaurant that serves Italian-American cuisine. Ambiance looks contemporary, maybe because of dimmed lights and chandeliers and of course the curtains, but is not that formal.

Freebies: Long and thinly sliced crunchy crackers served in a cocktail glass with three kinds of dips.

For appetizer, we ordered for puffed mozzarella stick with smoked pomodoro and prosciutto for P299 - Hmmm, it taste like pizza hut's chessy stuffed crust, as in!

Rockefeller Angus. P308. Angus beef, spinach, onion and mozzarella. The pizza was just ok, It is a little chewy and a little crispy, but I might order different flavor next time... Well, frankly , the reason why we ordered this because it sounds cool... lol
Madison Avenue Sausage and Pepper pasta. P298. Normally the pasta they serve for this is Spag or linguine, obviously we changed the pasta to something else since I don't eat spag and Tri is not a big fan either... anyhow the pasta servings is huge, needless to say that it can be shared by 3-4 pax but, but you have to eat other dish. :D
Overall, the place is a nice hangout place with sophisticated ambiance and satisfactory service... Food wise? uhmmm lets just talk about the ambiance :p, maybe I'll try their other dish(hmmmm steak!) next time...

Tony Roma’s

Tony Roma's is an American family restaurant chain world famous for its ribs.Tony Roma's menu also features a variety of other signature rib products as well as flame-grilled specialties such as sizzling steaks, legendary barbecued chicken, succulent seafood and all time American favorites like onion loaf, potato skins, baked potato soup, salads and hamburgers.

True... they served mouth-watering baby back ribs. The Glorietta branch as a laid back atmosphere that encourages relaxed dining. They have a very accommodating and knowledgeable staff...

Freebies: A loaf of bread with herbed butter

One of the best tasting and filling french onion soup. The melted Provolone is just perfect.

Tony Roma's star-studded sampler. P945
It is delicious( They have maintaned their baby back ribs consistently over the years which is very very good) - served with choice of 2 side dishes. We chose coleslaw and baked potato.
Serving is good for 4-6 pax.

Ooohhh they also served combo meals such as this ... tender juicy grilled steak and salmon combo. It is certainly good ....

I'm sorry but I've not taking note of the price lately...

Chelsea Market Cafe : Serendra

I had lunch in Chelsea Market and Cafe with friends one humid Saturday afternoon... And we dine in alfresco... Hoo hotty...

Chelsea is a modern American restaurant in Serendra that has an open kitchen which looks like more of a deli resto. I haven't noticed much of their interiors since we are seated outside, but the place is bright and inviting. It offers casual with a touch of elegance dining. Menu is pretty simple, extensive and straightforward. Service is great and the food is for sharing.

Anwyay for the food...

Before our actual order, we were welcomed by the sliced focaccia breads with whole bulb of garlic. I was the only one who touched the garlic - however it was almost tasteless. Of course we did ask for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette to add some dipping flavors. Freebies is always a plus plus :D
From their cheese cabinet we ordered for Jalapeno Cheddar and Emmenthal Cheese Fondue (P395) . It is served with crispy tortillas, bread, potatoes and market vegetables.

Here's a closer look of our cheese fondue. Oh the potato wedges is not part of their fondue serving.

Roasted chicken and cripy bacon salad (P350) is served with grandma's Caesar Dressing, Toasted almonds, Baby Romaine. Mixed greens are crispy and fresh and dressing is tasty.

Slow Cooked Norwegian Salmon (P350). It is served with blanched asparagus spears, salsa verde, mashed potato and toasted pine nuts. The steamed fish looked a little bland but it was salmony yummy.

Grandma's Sausage and Meatball Stew(325) with rigatoni pasta, barolo wine tomato Ragu, and Parmesan.
For me the pasta is just ok. Well... I'm not really a big fan of pasta.
But the meatball was huge,see... (ok wrong angle..hehe!)

Overall, Chelsea is good provider of comfort food. It is a good place to mingle with family or friends but since it is almost always full so you might want to call them for reservation before actually going there. And yeah they do serve variety of desserts and cocktails...

Holy cow Steak Ranch and American Grill

I've wanted to go to Robinson midtown - the newly built wing extension of Robinson’s place Ermita to see the mall itself and of course for the foodies. Anyway one weekend, I finally set foot there with my sisters and decided to try holy cow steak ranch and American grill.

Why there? Mainly because of its attractive western interiors- It is very inviting indeed with cowboy/Ranch style decors which you can obviously see once you enter the mall...

Here...

And we opt to sit by the booth. (Don't mind us ;-p)
A complimentary bread sticks was given as we waited for our orders.
The food...
Country mushroom soup. P85
Wow a soup for P85 bucks in an American resto, cheap e? But sadly it is not hot but it's warm ,and it is not creamy- I just can't figure out what's lacking in these soup, but there is... :(
All Star Spaghetti Marinara. P150 solo. P265 reg.
We requested for Angel hair pasta which they accommodate.
It is well presented and is good.

Captain Grilled Salmon. P310
With choice of two side dish - Potato ribbons and buttered veggies.
Salmon is a little bland for our taste- it is just so so.

Chief pot roast beef.P420
Mashed potato and ham pilaf as our side dish.
They should be serving their food hot specially when it is in a sizzling pan, right? It is not hot... nothing special about it... sigh!

All in all the food isn't great but is OK.

Good thing their staff is very accommodating and well trained and there's no service charge.

Will I be back? not for now I guess but I can try it again next time... hope they improve.

Texas Roadhouse Grill

One humid Sunday afternoon- me and my girlfriends(Roly & Tere) chance upon Bonifacio high street to do a little shopping and have our late lunch/early dinner in Texas roadhouse grill.

The ambiance is very western; cowboy and ranch decors with a dim lighting. Service is gratifying- they even gave free smiley stress ball to Tere when she wanted one.

Freebies- You can munch roasted peanut in a shell while waiting for the food to be served.

On our table:

Road house salad - P280

Full order of baby back ribs- P640

Honestly, the food was not bad, but I don't find anything extra ordinary... I can not remember their soup of the day that time and I can't remember the taste either ;-p. However, the place is a good hang-out place to chill especially after a hard days at work.

Bukidnon's Del Monte Golf club

Bukidnon is considered by Filipinos to be the food basket of Mindanao, the world's biggest pineapple plantation(Del Monte Pineapple plantation) can be found here, it is also the biggest cattle-producing province in the region.

I've got the chance to visit Del Monte's golf club in Bukidnon, not to play golf but merely to have lunch.

Dining area- the place was a bit old, casual and neat, not air-conditioned (not hot though). You can site the green and beautiful view of the golf course and feel the natural breeze of fresh air through its screened window; a view that was simply relaxing...

My food was a full ordered club steak - full order means with soup, salad and dessert. Wow! the steak was huge and tender... can be shared by two, but since it was so lusciously cooked - I ate it all by myself :). Pineapple is believed to tenderized beef, they must've softened it with that yet I'm not sure.... Their steak was comparable to Melo's and Highland steak yet cheaper. Their Club steak cost around PHP400-500. Look, look.... Doesn't this look gorgeously divine?
They also offered other steak cuts such as porterhouse, New York's cut, T-bone and sirloin.

Their Roast-pork was thick-sliced was large as well; it was not too appealing to me - looks bland and dry or was it the presentation? They should have had put a little gravy, but my friend said it taste good, and that matters right? Ooohhh gravy was served separately.

Hamburger - Pure beef patty, served in soft and fresh bread and comes with chips. Taste is irresistible.... yummy!
Francis and Marge - Thanks for the great dining experience ;-)
