Greens Vegetarian Restaurant and Cafe

It’s that time of year again! New Year's once again creeping up on us, for sure, a lot of us have started toying with the idea of a resolution. One of the most popular resolutions includes “Eating healthy”.

I’m not here to lecture about creating a healthier self rather to share my food discoveries. Anyway, here’s another vegetarian restaurant discovery which impresses me and think it’ll do the same with you.

Greens offers meatless meals, I love how the way they explores veggies into a healthy masterpieces with much flavor.

Papadam.P25 - their indian  type appetizer is crispy  and tasty.

Mixed greens salad. P80

Mushroom soup.P50- clear based soup with sliced of mushroom.

Note: I think their soups are all clear based and is  a little bland for my taste, but you can always add a little salt and pepper on it.

Tofu sisig. P140 - one of their best sellers, it is really tasty and healthy...

We also tried their "veggie" beef broccoli.P185, their veggie "pork" barbecue and pesto pasta which were all good... Sorry, the pictures are on my boyfriend's cellphone which we haven't uploaded yet... maybe next time :p

They also have kebabs, faux fish and wraps/sandwiches too... All in all, the food taste nice and plus it swaks to our budget, it deserves an occasional visit. Personally, it's one of the best vegetarian restaurant in metro. Perhaps, meat lovers will like it too :)

Everybody's Cafe - Exotic food finds

We had an adventure food trip up North in San Fernando, Pampanga; Everybody's Cafe is one of the most long lived and famous food places here and is "the home of authentic Kapampangan cuisine"
They serve "turo-turo" or carinderia style and offers smacked of down-home cooking and also those of classified as bizarre/ exotic foods.

I tasted an insect for the first time in my life; Camaro or deep fried mole cricket, it reminds me as one of the fear factor type of food, looks a bit gross but it tasted just like "ukoy" or fried small shrimps, was crunchy and tasty- Not bad at all.

Betute (stuffed frog) - Stuffed with ground pork and was deep fried, it was cute to look at or maybe not :p - according to them it taste like chicken with meatballs, uhmm I didn't really tried this one..

Frog legs - deep fried frog legs- I tasted it a little portion few times already, but I can’t seem to finish one leg since I'm really grossed out imagining the warts and the actual frog... but sure it tasted like chicken.

Sinigang na ulang - Ulang is a fresh water shrimp, it looks and taste like prawn only it has bigger head and rounder body plus it has claws.

Our table was filled with variety of goodies, not to mention their morcon -tender cuts of pork with marbled fat smothered with rich sauce made from oven drippings (picture is beside the ulang, the orangey one); the pork sisig which was sizzled with liver pate and their chicharon bulaklak or deep-fried pork intestines...

Price Range- P60-250/meal

My verdict: Everybody's cafe is worth a trip especially when you feel a little adventurous with your meal.

Barasoain church

When I was a kid, I only knew Barasoain church trough 10 peso bills - I remember looking for a cat in the bills... as time progresses, I had learned to appreciate the value of history:
I've been going to Malolos to accompany P to his Lolo's house; From time to time we visit Barasoain church which is almost walking distance from them... Here are some pictures I took during our 2nd visit:

Barasoain Church (also known as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish) is a Roman Catholic church built in 1630[1] in Malolos City, Bulacan. Having earned the title as the Cradle of Democracy in the East, the most important religious building in the Philippines [2], and the site of the First Philippine Republic, the Church is proverbial for its historical importance among Filipinos.

The term "Barasoain" was derived from the Filipino word "baras ng suwail", which means "dungeon of the defiant". The term was coined because the place was once the rendezvous of Filipinos who were in opposition to the laws imposed during the reign of the conquerors of the country. The term was also been attributed to a name originated from a well-known church in Navarra, Spain. Priests and missionaries who built the cathedral had gone to the place and saw a beautiful church and later named it to the one built in Malolos. - from wiki

Joey Pepperoni Pizzeria - Pasta all you can

Joey Pepperoni Pizzeria has been around for quite some time, but I didn’t really make an effort to try it out then, since it’s not near our place, and also I thought it was just another pizzeria chain... they’ve open a branch right across my work building.

Joey Pepperoni “the columns” branch is cozy but way too small, it can prolly seat up to 25 customers (EST.). Service was just ok but the food was wonderful...why? Because I love chewy doughy pizza and they have it there - thin crust with right amount of cheese and toppings.
Their Pasta was al dente and was not dry although I didn't like the garlic bread on the side :P - here’s the picture of my pesto penne pasta. Well, I ordered for set 6 meal for P160 which included pasta , 2 slice of pizzas(above picture) and a glass of ice tea.

Roly, ordered for tuna panini. P100, she said it was good too...

And most importantly, the columns branch have pasta all you can for only P150 with choices of these pasta: carbonara, pesto and meat sauce, promo runs from 2pm-6pm (Monday-Friday) and whole day on Saturdays and Sunday. Not really sure the end date of their promo but for now, let the carbs overload begin :P


Should I come back? Definitely!

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao

Xiaolongbao is a dimsum - buns are served hot in bamboo baskets in which they were steamed, often on a bed of cabbage, and dipped in chinese vinegar with ginger slices. In Hong Kong, Crystal Jade's "La mien Xiao long bao" offers the best tasting xiaolongbao for 26.00 HKD/4 pieces:

but be sure that you book ahead , otherwise be prepared to join the crowd outside the restaurant for a typical 30 minutes to an hour wait. Yes, we are part of these crowd...
Their noodles are also good as well as their other dishes, but I forgot to take photos of the dishes and I can't seem to decrypt the chinese receipt (I shall refresh my chinese skills...lol!) so...

The wait is definitely worth it, will surely be back here when in Hong Kong.
