Shinjuku Ramen house

Shinjuku is a laid-back Japanese ramen house. Actually, I've been noticing this place for quite some time now... and always wanted to try the one in Makati Avenue for ages, finally...

Shinjuku offers a wide selection of cooked noodles, from ramen to fried noodles to cold noodles to udon - name it and they have it. In my estimate they have 50 different types of specialty noodles in their menu.

The place is unpretentious -looks more of a canteen to me with a Japanese touch.

They also offers non-noodle food such as sushi/ sashimi, tepanyaki, rice toppings and other japansey dish...

We ordered for Maguro/Tuna Sashimi P250.
It doesn't look fresh in the picture but it wasn't fishy at all...
WHOA! The large bowl is really humongous, a family of 3-4 can share this big bowl perhaps...

We ordered for Manten Men. It is a mixed seafood noodles which taste incredibly yummy... This cost roughly around P325-400, as I mentioned above it can be shared by 4 pax :P
As a soup lover, I would definitely be back in this place to slurp some ramen- I have yet to try 40++ more Japanese specialty noodles .... weee yum yum!

Ooohhh they have 3 branches in metro Manila:

Chelsea Market Cafe : Serendra

I had lunch in Chelsea Market and Cafe with friends one humid Saturday afternoon... And we dine in alfresco... Hoo hotty...

Chelsea is a modern American restaurant in Serendra that has an open kitchen which looks like more of a deli resto. I haven't noticed much of their interiors since we are seated outside, but the place is bright and inviting. It offers casual with a touch of elegance dining. Menu is pretty simple, extensive and straightforward. Service is great and the food is for sharing.

Anwyay for the food...

Before our actual order, we were welcomed by the sliced focaccia breads with whole bulb of garlic. I was the only one who touched the garlic - however it was almost tasteless. Of course we did ask for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette to add some dipping flavors. Freebies is always a plus plus :D
From their cheese cabinet we ordered for Jalapeno Cheddar and Emmenthal Cheese Fondue (P395) . It is served with crispy tortillas, bread, potatoes and market vegetables.

Here's a closer look of our cheese fondue. Oh the potato wedges is not part of their fondue serving.

Roasted chicken and cripy bacon salad (P350) is served with grandma's Caesar Dressing, Toasted almonds, Baby Romaine. Mixed greens are crispy and fresh and dressing is tasty.

Slow Cooked Norwegian Salmon (P350). It is served with blanched asparagus spears, salsa verde, mashed potato and toasted pine nuts. The steamed fish looked a little bland but it was salmony yummy.

Grandma's Sausage and Meatball Stew(325) with rigatoni pasta, barolo wine tomato Ragu, and Parmesan.
For me the pasta is just ok. Well... I'm not really a big fan of pasta.
But the meatball was huge,see... (ok wrong angle..hehe!)

Overall, Chelsea is good provider of comfort food. It is a good place to mingle with family or friends but since it is almost always full so you might want to call them for reservation before actually going there. And yeah they do serve variety of desserts and cocktails...

Canyon Cove Beach Resort

Three weeks ago, I've got a chance to visit Canyon Cove Residential beach resort in Nasugbu Batangas with friends. At first we where a bit dud since some of part of the condotels is half-abandoned (for years). But the dismay vanished when we saw the place especially at night time. At night, the place reminds me of Mactan Shangri-la minus the 5 star services. We stayed in a studio unit at the 5th floor where we saw the full top view of the resort. The room was clean, organized and well equipped.

The Resort provides comfortable accommodations and dining facilities with a spectacular view of the sand and the sea. The beach is blessed color beige sand and with clear blue water with low almost no waves. It also has a gigantic infinity pool where you can swim if you don't want the beachy feel. And the astonishing sunset view right in from of you.

If you are looking for a place for vacation not too far away from hustle bustle Manila. This is the place to be ;)

Room/unit price ranging from P4,500 - P8,000

Holy cow Steak Ranch and American Grill

I've wanted to go to Robinson midtown - the newly built wing extension of Robinson’s place Ermita to see the mall itself and of course for the foodies. Anyway one weekend, I finally set foot there with my sisters and decided to try holy cow steak ranch and American grill.

Why there? Mainly because of its attractive western interiors- It is very inviting indeed with cowboy/Ranch style decors which you can obviously see once you enter the mall...

Here...

And we opt to sit by the booth. (Don't mind us ;-p)
A complimentary bread sticks was given as we waited for our orders.
The food...
Country mushroom soup. P85
Wow a soup for P85 bucks in an American resto, cheap e? But sadly it is not hot but it's warm ,and it is not creamy- I just can't figure out what's lacking in these soup, but there is... :(
All Star Spaghetti Marinara. P150 solo. P265 reg.
We requested for Angel hair pasta which they accommodate.
It is well presented and is good.

Captain Grilled Salmon. P310
With choice of two side dish - Potato ribbons and buttered veggies.
Salmon is a little bland for our taste- it is just so so.

Chief pot roast beef.P420
Mashed potato and ham pilaf as our side dish.
They should be serving their food hot specially when it is in a sizzling pan, right? It is not hot... nothing special about it... sigh!

All in all the food isn't great but is OK.

Good thing their staff is very accommodating and well trained and there's no service charge.

Will I be back? not for now I guess but I can try it again next time... hope they improve.

Izakaya Tanuki

Tanuki in Japanese means legendary raccoon dog. In Manila, it is a small and modest authentic Japanese restaurant in buendia. Dining here will give you a feel of traditional Japanese dining - sitting on a tatami mats and dine from low tables; there's also an portion where there is a chair by the bar. Japanese written menu (we assume) are posted by the wall.
The menu is a little off at first, informing us that they don't have sushi or bento, but it didn't bothered at all as we go on on pages, since the choices is pretty extensive. Service is just ok. Anyway on our table...

Shake sashimi. P180
There salmon is generously sliced, is fresh and yummy.
It is definitely to drool for.

Ebi Tempura. P250 est.
It is crunchy, light and not greasy.

Fried rice with Miso soup. P180.
Yes it comes in combo- fried rice is big enough for two, While miso soup is just ok it is missing the tofu.
Tenderloin wrapped in bacon skewer. Price ranging from 350-400

Mmmmmm... tender and juicy!

Hmmmm... if you are interested dining in this place I suggest you made reservation first since the place is pretty small. In my estimate, it can only accommodate 25 pax or perhaps 6 group of 4 pax ;-)

Thousand cranes Shabu- Shabu

Shabu-shabu is a Japanese variant of hotpot. I so love shabu-shabu, mainly because I love my food hot and healthy and I am obviously big fan of soup.

Thousand Crane is somewhat a new place in greenbelt area, if I'm not mistaken it is the only shabu-shabu place in GB area. Nice.. And they also offer other variety of Japanese cuisine that you can oreder ala carte... The place is a bit of organized with "Cranes" decor are all over the wall .

Here's what we've ordered beefloin... was it? P300++
Philadelphia Maki.P198
Salmon, cheese, mango rolled in nori with sushi rice and ebiko

I know, this entry is kinda missing some details but hemingway... Try it, it's good and healthy! *wink*
